Das Bild “Das Eismeer” oder “Verlorene Hoffnung” von Caspar David Friedrich prägt seit
dem 19. Jahrhundert unsere mitteleuropäische Sicht aufs Eismeer. Dabei war C.D. Friedrich
126, 9 x 96,7 cm.
The painting "The Arctic Ocean" or "Lost Hope" by Caspar David Friedrich has shaped
our Central European view of the Arctic Ocean since the 19th century. In reality, however,
C.D. Friedrich was never there himself, but created his original image
from black and white photographs of expeditions of his time.
I wanted to collect, as a kind of answer to the old master, a personal and current story about the Arctic Ocean and so, among other things, an oil painting with exactly the dimensions of Caspar David Friedrich's "Lost Hope" was created: 126, 9 x 96,7 cm.
